2015 Chief Joseph Days Ranch Rodeo, June 26 & 27th
The 7th Annual Chief Joseph Days Ranch Rodeo, a fundraiser for the CJD Scholarship Fund, kicks off Friday, June 26. The Ranch Rodeo that is leading up to the 70th Annual Chief Joseph Days Rodeo has been a successful scholarship fundraiser for the last seven years.
In addition to the college scholarships awarded to Chief Joseph Days Royalty Court Members, three $1,000 scholarships are awarded to Wallowa County High school students; Wallowa, Enterprise and Joseph one each respectively.
The activities start with another exciting trail ride Friday, June 26, at 2:00 p.m., from the Harley Tucker Memorial Grounds to the moraines at Wallowa Lake and then back through Joseph.
The big Roast Beef Dinner begins with “Happy Hour” at 6 p.m and dinner at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 each. Children five to ten years of age, $7.00, four and younger are free. Tickets are available at the Joseph Chamber and the Sports Corral in Joseph. Tickets will also be available at the door, but people are encouraged to purchase dinner tickets in advance.
Following the dinner will be silent and live auctions, a Calcutta to auction off the ranch rodeo teams. The Caluctta is a fundraiser – 25 percent of the proceeds goes to a scholarship fund and 75 percent goes to the “owner” of the winning team. Raffle tickets for two nights at Southpoint Resort in Las Vegas and two tickets for two performances at the National Finals Rodeo will be sold for $10 and $7 apiece.
Live auction items include yards of gravel, a fishing rod, horse collar, cowboy hat and team pictures from past rodeos, and much more.
Come join the fun this weekend during the countdown to the Chief Joseph Days Rodeo. The rodeo starts at 5 p.m. Saturday. Entrance is $6 adults, $3 for children 10 and under and free for two and under. The kids start the evening with goat roping. Entry is $5 per child.
Saturday events are team roping, branding, sorting and doctoring. Awards will be given for best cowgirl and top hand.
There is $1,500 added money for the team events – top four teams will win money as well as top two teams for each event.
There will be a womens-only jackpot break away roping. Winners will take the jackpot proceeds plus a gift certificate. The event is Limited to ten break away ropers and doesn’t count toward team events. The mens-only bronc riding has $500 added money and is also a stand-alone event.
This year the countdown to Chief Joseph Days Rodeo festivities continue after the ranch rodeo Saturday night with barbecue, drinks and live music by the Skyline Band.
Entrance to the rodeo is $6 for adults, $3 for 10 and under and free for 2 and under.

Teams competing this year are the Baremore Ranch, Fence Creek Ranch, Marr Flat Cattle Company, Triple Creek Cattle, Y Double M Ranch, Circle P Ranch, Quail Run, McCormack Ranch, YJ Ranch, Yost Ranch, Team members who go on Friday’s ride get a complimentary dinner Friday night.
